SB 8 – Hertzberg – Service Labor

This bill would require charging Tax on Service Labor with revisions in the Corporate and Personal Tax Codes. This impacts all businesses except education and medical field.

CalABC Position, Oppose On the basis that the increased tax is unduly burdensome to motorists.

Status Update - 2 Year Bill

Comments: We need to better understand the deficit they are attempting to resolve with this new tax structure. Initially there were discussions about tax trade-offs in restructuring the tax code. We will need to see what they propose in order to fully understand how this impacts everyone. Also, does it warrant having a lower tax rate for all taxes on goods and services instead of just adding another 8%+ to the consumer’s bill?
